Steps & Stairs - What You Need To Know

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (P.U.W.E.R) 1998 require the “Duty Holder” to ensure that any work equipment provided is; 'Suitable for use, and for the purpose and conditions in which it is used, Maintained in a safe condition for use so that the Health and Safety of the workers is not at risk, Inspected in certain circumstances to ensure that it is, and continues to be safe for use'.
Inspections ensure that installations are still compliant with current legislation as well as checking for damage, corrosion or loose fittings. They will also check for items that may present an obvious hazard such as slips, trips, falls or impact damage.
All of the following British standards apply to Steps & Stairs: BS EN ISO 14122 and Building Regulations Part K.
Step Overs & Gantries - What You Need To Know
Equipment such as Step Units, Step Overs & Gantries have often been installed for planned maintenance purposes providing a safe route or passage to a designated area of regular maintenance. The duty holder should be aware that inspections are required every 12 months to avoid risk of people being injured.
All of the following British standards apply to Step Units, Step Overs & Gantries: BS 14122, BS 5395-3 & BS 4592.
Rooftop Walkways - What You Need To Know
Equipment such as Rooftop Walkways have often been installed for planned maintenance purposes. Roof walkways and similar solutions provide safe access for general cleaning and maintenance purposes. They also prevent the likelihood of trips and falls around service equipment and parapet edges. The duty holder should be aware that inspections are required every 12 months to avoid risk of people being injured.
Where modular step systems form part of a roof access system they can be manufactured in accordance with BS EN 516 Prefabricated accessories for roofing. Installation for roof access, walkways, treads & steps.
